Hair transplant techniques

Introduction

Dr Samuel Benarroch MD, DDS, MS and his team perform FUE hair transplants exclusively for their patients. This method of cutting edge hair transplant techniques is highly technical and the most effective way to get maximum value from each donor follicle.

What is FUE? (Follicular Unit Extraction)

FUE, sometimes called follicular unit transplantation and is a highly skilled hair restoration technique and is the  most advanced method of hair transplantation.

How does it work

During an FUE transplant, a highly experienced hair transplant surgeon harvests hair follicles form the donor area, typically from the back of the neck using a specialized tool extraction of less than 1 mm in diameter. Follicles are transferred to the receiving area on the scalp and implanted with the aid of a stereo microscope in groups of one to four hairs, as they grow in nature.

This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure, so the patient will remain fully conscious at all times, since only local anaesthesia is required. Recovery time is short and the risk of complications is low.

After the procedure we will provide clear instructions on aftercare, drugs and topical treatments to provide the best possible outcome. If you are staying at the NEST this treatment will be done for you on a daily basis.

How is FUE different

It was different from other hair transplants in several ways. The first is that there are no distinctive scars, or any noticeable change (other than a new lease on life for your hair).

Transplant strip

Transplants strip, a method which removes a strip of scalp with high density hair follicles. These are needed for transplantation and are usually taken from the back of the head, where the density of follicles are stronger. The strip method alone does take longer to heal, unless combined with an immediate hair transplant in conjunction with the coronal incision during forehead reconstruction.

In this method a strip approximately one centimetre wide is dissected, the follicles are harvested during the main surgery and then transplanted upon conclusion.

Transplant surgery strip also has a longer recovery time, especially when compared to FUE. Sutures are usually usually removed on the seventh day, but depending upon hair density it will take some time for the incision scar to loose visibility.

Donor hair is a precious resource

The most important thing to consider is that hair transplants can only be relocated from one part of your body to another, we can not create donor hair. Hair follicles are a finite resource, and our team take great care to safeguard each follicle and hair during the procedure.

Donor hair is taken from the places that are not affected by hair loss. In men, this is typically the sides and back of the head. Individual follicles are transplanted to the scalp area that requires attention. This signifies the importance of selecting a highly experienced hair transplant team.

The results of FUE

What makes FUE so remarkable is the way the hairs are implanted: experienced specialists carefully map hair growth before implantation, so they know where and at what angle to place each follicle.

It is a demanding process which requires a lot of experience and expertise, but we believe the result is worth it. With successful FUE transplant the donor hair grows, moves and feels the way it used to be. FUE is the hair transplant technique of the highest quality available.

Since this is your natural hair, just moved from one place to another, it will grow exactly like normal hair and is permanent and enable you to just enjoy your natural hair.
